NEW WORK: Grandcamp Adventures – Treasure Maps
Summer is here, but nearly gone. No chance for a holiday yet. We’ve had rain today, the first in weeks… it comes as a bit of relief.
This is an early outtake from a recent stencil illustration project. I’m still rather fond of this monkey icon and thought it would make a fun wallpaper for [...]
Last week I had a pleasant surprise in the mail. Rather than bills and take-out menus a couple of print samples from Oxford University Press arrived. I contributed some illustrations too a couple of books published earlier this year from their Tree Tops series. It’s nice to see the illustrations in context.
Here are the samples in [...]
While coming back from a short trip Santa Monica yesterday, I couldn’t help but reflect on how wonderful the Vancouver YVR airport is. It’s a striking contrast to the utilitarian corridors and smelly carpets of LAX. The lightness and transparency of the building is a relief after the byzantine sprawl of LAX and the confines [...]
This is another recent sample from the Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Center in the United Arab Emirates. The content for the Center is being expertly developed by AldrichPears Associates in Vancouver. It is planned for opening in 2011 and will be constructed and operated utilizing pioneer sustainability principles, a truly relevant goal given its location [...]
Here are some illustrations I contributed to Oxford University Press’s Myths and Legends series due out early 2010. My story is called “Tagaloa’s Rock” and is featured on the cover as well as grayscale spots inside intermingled with large lettered text. It’s based on a Samoan creation myth and is retold by author Fiona MacDonald.

The illo’s appear intermingled with large lettered text and are aimed at readers at the grades 3 and 4 levels. It’s based on the Aesop’s fable of the [...]
Sorry for the delay in postings… I’ve been toiling over a hot Cintiq for a few weeks…
Earlier this Summer I finished of a dozen illustrations for a book of Aesop’s fables being published by Oxford University Press. The Book has now gone out for printing. It features several stories, each with illustrations by a different [...]
A few months back I was asked to contribute some illos for this book. Looks like it’s due to hit the shelves in Autumn. The book is titled “Big Book of Contemporary Illustration” compiled and written by a swell fella named Martin Dawber and published by Batsford Books.
My contributions where a few of my Art [...]
This is a museum illustration from a couple of months back featuring the Red Panda (Ailurus fulguns), sometimes known as the “shinning cat”. This digital illustration was completed in much the same was the ones for the Sheik Zyiad Desert Learning Centre with layers and transparent backgrounds so there would be no need for close [...]
This grayscale illustration was created in response to some recent trends. Times being what they are there’s bound to be a resurgence in publishing. In fact, there’s no reason why b/w illustrations can’t provide as rich an experience for the reader as colour. I’ve been experimenting with different digital techniques to find ways of creating [...]
This is the first in a series of illustrations relating to a fox character. It started as a personal work and later graced the cover of Crow Toes Quarterly, a Children’s Literature Magazine in Spring 2008. www.crowtoesquarterly.com
What’s the story? Well there is no story yet, but it is unfolding. Feel free to tell me [...]

This is a fun illustration I just came across. It was completed a number of years ago for an exhibit at Science World called Thingamajigs. The show was all about wacky inventions and was set in a space designed to took like the house of a family of inventors. This was one of the exhibits, [...]

They were featured alongside text and refer to beautiful First Nations sculptures on display. I’ve travelled through many airports over the years and YVR still stands out as [...]

This illustration was for a series of conceptual renderings for a proposed touring exhibit of artifacts from the Vatican Library collection. The exhibit was to be entitled “Gloria”.
